African National Congress (ANC)’s First Deputy-Secretary Nomvula Mokonyane says resolving the water issues in Mogale City remain a top priority for the party.
Mokonyane says that the water outages and shortages in Mogale City are driven by challenges at Rand Water.
Mokonyane was on the campaign trail in Extension 13 in Mogale City on Gauteng’s West Rand. The community has suffered water cuts. ageing infrastructure as well as vandalising of pump stations continue to pose problems.
Mokonyane explained to the community that it is not Mogale City that’s at fault; it’s the refurbishment of the infrastructure, but also the inability of the electricity supply.
“Hence now Eskom, Rand Water, the Department of Water and Sanitation, as well as the Sedibeng, Emfuleni Municipality, and the Joburg Water, are jointly working on these issues. They will be able to also ensure that the water tankers that are here are able to provide for those that are not able to go out of their homes or afford to buy, so the issue of water is a major issue here.”
