Russia and Mozambique intend to open a new chapter in bilateral relations and raise trade and economic cooperation between the two countries to an even higher level through South–South cooperation. This was stated by Mozambican President Daniel Francisco Chapo in an exclusive interview with TV BRICS.
According to the President, the country attaches great importance to developing relations with BRICS.

The Mozambican leader recalled that the country’s economy currently depends to a significant extent on the extractive industries and the gas sector.
“We are seeking to diversify it [the economy – Ed.], and therefore we are paying particular attention to developing trade and economic ties and attracting investment. This includes investment in agriculture, infrastructure, transport, logistics, energy, as well as the blue economy, digitalisation and artificial intelligence,” he emphasised.
According to Daniel Francisco Chapo, Russia and Mozambique have a long history of cooperation in education.
“It is important to note that immediately after our country gained independence, many Russian teachers came to Mozambique. They primarily taught the exact sciences – mathematics, physics and chemistry,” he noted, adding that many African countries also send their students to study in Russia.
