Oman’s oil company to introduce AI, drones and robots to manage oilfields

The Oman’s oil company has announced the launch of an autonomous production programme utilising artificial intelligence (AI), drones, robotics and advanced control systems. The initiative aims to boost productivity, reduce technical failures and lower operating costs. This was reported by
Al Shabiba, a partner of TV BRICS.

The programme was unveiled at an event dedicated to the company’s autonomous operations and digital transformation. The initiative involves the implementation of digital technologies at all key stages of operations: from exploration and field development to well drilling, production and oil export.

The new system will enable a shift from rectifying faults after they occur to predicting problems and taking timely action. The company also plans to expand the range of operations carried out autonomously. Decisions will be made in accordance with established safety requirements and under the constant supervision of specialists.

Another area of focus will be the creation of digital twins – virtual models of production facilities and equipment linked to operational data. These will enable more accurate monitoring of asset condition, the identification of potential problems and faster decision-making.

The company intends to invest in digital technologies, the training of specialists within the country and technological partnerships. These measures are in line with the objectives of the “Oman 2040” strategy, which envisages the development of innovation, digital transformation and the national digital economy.
