Oral evidence order doesn’t mean allegations are true: Mbalula

The African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula has welcomed an order by the High Court in Johannesburg, directing that his defamation dispute with ANC NEC member Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma be determined through oral evidence.

Mbalula, Dlamini-Zuma as well as other relevant witnesses have been ordered by the acting judge to give evidence on allegations that money was used to influence the outcome of the party’s 2022 elective conference.

Mbalula says the order does not amount to a finding that the allegations against him are true, and maintains that he has consistently denied them. The court has now directed that the disputed facts be tested through oral evidence and cross-examination.
