Presidents of Russia and Iran agreed on further co-ordination of countries’ actions in BRICS and SCO

The leaders discussed bilateral cooperation and international agenda

Iranian and Russian Presidents Ebrahim Raisi and Vladimir Putin during a telephone conversation discussed topical issues of bilateral cooperation, including the expansion of trade and economic ties and the implementation of major joint investment projects. This is reported by the official
website of the President of the Russian Federation.

The Iranian leader congratulated his Russian counterpart on his re-election as president, expressing confidence that Russian-Iranian relations will continue to develop dynamically. The two sides reviewed the international agenda, agreeing on further coordination between Russia and Iran on multilateral platforms, including within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and the BRICS association.

Vladimir Putin conveyed congratulations to the Iranian people on the occasion of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan and the spring holiday of Nowruz.

Iran joined BRICS from 1 January 2024. The republic was invited to join the alliance following a summit in Johannesburg in August 2023. Apart from it, Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates also received invitations. Argentina later declined to join the alliance.
