African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa says he is confident the party will emerge victorious in this year’s local government elections.
Ramaphosa says ANC councillors must be visible and live among the communities they serve. He says every ANC-led municipality will develop a localised manifesto and implementation plan addressing specific challenges.
The party launched its 2026 local government elections manifesto at Riverside Park near Diepsloot in Johannesburg, where the President addressed supporters.
“Every ANC-led council will develop a localised manifesto and an implementation plan addressing the specific strengths and challenges of that municipality. The work will begin on the first day after the election. So, after the ANC wins, we are going to clock it. The first 100 days, ANC mayors and councillors must publish their priorities. They must establish service delivery baselines,” says Ramaphosa.

Ramaphosa says it is mandatory that the party’s councillors and mayors that will be elected post the elections give regular feedback to their communities on the implementation of the party’s manifesto.
He says the first 100 days of the councillors and mayors in office will set the pace for the municipal five-year term.
Ramaphosa says ANC deployees must focus on getting the local economy to function well, delivering services and developing a healthy working relationship with traditional leaders.
“The first 100 days, ANC mayors and councillors must publish their priorities. They must establish service delivery baselines and show measurable progress on the most urgent problems facing the communities.”
