Sergey Lavrov to hold a number of meetings in Tunisia

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has arrived in Tunisia on a working visit at the invitation of Tunisian Foreign Minister Nabil Ammar

The purpose of the visit is to intensify political dialogue and economic cooperation between the two countries. This is reported by
Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP).

The foreign ministers are expected to discuss cooperation in agriculture, including the purchase of grain from Russia.

Economic co-operation between the two countries has received a new impetus, in particular after the signing of an agreement between the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs and the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts, as well as the establishment of the Tunisian-Russian Business Council.

Tunisian imports from Russia in the first ten months of 2023 increased by 67.3 per cent compared to 2022.

The main commodities imported from Russia are crude oil, liquefied natural gas, grain and fertilisers, while the main commodities exported to Russia are fruits and vegetables, manufactured goods and agricultural products.

Tunisia and Russia are countries with enormous tourist potential. Thus, according to the National Tunisian Tourism Office (ONTT), by the end of October 2023, the country had welcomed some 21,506 Russian citizens.
