Space research hall opens in Venezuela’s Merida state

This is part of a large-scale government programme to develop the country’s scientific and technological capabilities

The National Astronomical Observatory in the Venezuelan state of Merida held a ceremonial opening of the observation hall named after astrophysicist Hector Rojas

The facility is equipped with two semi-professional telescopes to support research in space sciences and astronomy, as reported by
BRICSLat, a partner of TV BRICS.

Venezuela’s Minister of Science and Technology, Gabriela Jimenez, highlighted Dr Rojas’s significant contribution to the development of Venezuelan and global science, emphasising his role in the success of the manned Moon landing mission.

“We as Venezuelans are recovering his history and making him known to the new generations, so that he can be another source of inspiration in the development of projects and dreams,” she stressed.

It is noted that the opening of the new centre to support astronomical science is part of a broad government programme aimed at advancing the country’s scientific and technological potential.
