The UAE celebrated International Clean Energy Day

The country is one of the world leaders in this sector

The UAE celebrated International Clean Energy Day on Friday, 26 January, highlighting its global leadership in the sector and launching initiatives to combat climate change.

Last year, the cabinet adopted the UAE Energy Strategy 2050, which aims to achieve climate neutrality in the electricity and water sector by 2050. This involves reducing emissions, eliminating coal from the energy mix and improving consumption efficiency.

Other targets include tripling the contribution of renewable energy, increasing the total installed capacity of clean energy sources from 14.2 gigawatts to 19.8 gigawatts and increasing the share of clean energy generation to 32 per cent. All of this is planned to be achieved by 2030.

In addition, the National Hydrogen Strategy was launched in 2023. It outlines steps to establish two hydrogen oases and explore the potential for a future three. This will strengthen the UAE’s position as a global producer and exporter of clean energy, increase local manufacturing capacity, and accelerate the development of the global hydrogen economy and stimulate the domestic market.

The strategy aims to drive economic growth, create thousands of jobs by 2050 and reduce emissions from high-emitting sectors by 25 per cent by 2031. This is reported by
ANI, a partner of TV BRICS.
