UAE celebrates Emirati Women’s Day on August 28
The Emirates continues to empower women
For UAE citizens, Emirati Women’s Day, which is celebrated on August 28, is a tribute and appreciation of women who play a key role in national development. The day is a symbol of gratitude for their active contribution to building the country’s future.
The Embassy of the United Arab Emirates to the Russian Federation organised an event on the occasion of Emirati Women’s Day, which was attended by officials, including the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Arab Emirates to the Russian Federation, Mohammed Ahmed Al Jaber.
In his speech, the ambassador emphasised the UAE government’s commitment to women’s empowerment.
“The idea of dedicating a national holiday to women proves the commitment of the UAE government to promoting gender equality as one of the national priorities, one of the most important topics on the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, and one of the goals on the UAE roadmap for future development, which is set for achievement in the near future before the 2071 UAE centennial,” he said.
In 2024, the UAE government has raised the bar in terms of support for women, reaching 50 per cent female representation in the top legislative bodies and 27.3 per cent in ministerial positions. Currently, nine women hold ministerial positions, and 12 women represent the UAE as ambassadors, representing 11 per cent of the country’s ambassadors, the highest in the Arab region.
“Now we have 12 women working as Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives of the UAE, which equals 11 per cent of the total number of UAE Ambassadors and the highest percentage among all Arab states,” stated Naima Suhail Al Musharrakh, Head of the Department of Media, Cultural, and Public Diplomatic Affairs.
UAE Officials are confident that this increase in the number of women in leadership, supported by a wise government, points to the high organisational efficiency, a thriving economy, and a high level of equality achieved through the key role of Emirati women and their effective contribution to the country’s renaissance and sustainable development alongside men.
