UN high-level meeting to seek to maintain the Agenda to 2030

A high-level meeting of the UN General Assembly aims to give more momentum to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda

The SDG summit, which will take place on 18 and 19 September, aims to demonstrate to the world community the need to make the global goals a source of hope, as reported by Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.

This was underlined by Amina J. Mohammed, the organisation’s Deputy Secretary General, while noting efforts to reach a clear and progressive political declaration on the eve of the meeting.

This confirms the intention of the international community to make every possible joint effort, especially in the area of financing, to redouble efforts and make a breakthrough in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

Next week, in addition to the general debate, the organisation will hold summits on the SDGs and climate change, a dialogue on financing for development, and three key meetings on health.

These events aim concrete steps to catalyse change towards the Sustainable Development Goals, to solidarise and develop a movement for SDG compliance for everyone everywhere, stressed Mohammed at the press conference.

The weekend, dubbed “SDG Days”, will also provide opportunities, particularly for key actors to come together and renew their commitments and contributions to the common cause.

“Saturday will be a Day of Unity in Support of the Sustainable Development Goals, where we hope to bring together some five thousand people from all corners of the world, representing all walks of life,” she said.

In addition, the high-level week will open with a call to civil society, youth and others to show solidarity, determination and capacity, added the UN Deputy Secretary-General.

“Sunday will focus on accelerating the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, on how we can better support this movement,” noted Mohammed.
