Abdel Fattah al-Sisi re-elected as Egypt’s president for the third time

Abdel Fattah al-Sisi received 89.6 per cent of the vote

Egypt’s three-day election ended on 12 December. Nearly 70% of more than 67 million voters took part in the voting. This was reported by the head of the National Electoral Commission of Egypt Hazem Badawy.

The election consolidated the power of Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who has been Egypt’s president since 2014.

Al-Sisi’s victory secured his third – and, according to the constitution, final – term in power. This is reported by

He was first elected president in 2014 and re-elected in 2018, winning 97 per cent of the vote both times.
