ActionSA has criticised the decision by the South African Police Service (SAPS) to set aside R600m to beef up security on June 30th.
Some organisations such as March on March and Operation Dudula have given undocumented immigrants until June 30 to leave the country.
The SAPS announced that it will partner with the private security to maintain stability on the day.
ActionSA’s Zandile Dabula says the move was not necessary.
“The SAPS have set aside R600m just to beef up security on the 30th. I mean, how did we even get to R600m when they don’t even know what is going to happen on the day? Nobody has said that we will be marching, nobody has said that there is going to be violence. As ActionSA, we do not condone violence, but we are strongly opposed to what the government is doing. People are unsafe in their communities on a daily basis,” says Dabula.
