DA Cabinet reshuffle is about the future, not division: Hill-Lewis

The Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Geordin Hill-Lewis says his call to reshuffle the party’s Cabinet representatives is about positioning the DA for the future, not internal divisions.

Earlier this month, Hill-Lewis wrote to President Cyril Ramaphosa proposing changes to the DA’s Cabinet team, including replacing former party leader and Agriculture Minister, John Steenhuisen.

He was speaking during a visit to Evaton West, where the party celebrated a landmark by-election victory in Ward 28.

Hill-Lewis says the proposed changes are part of a long-term strategy to strengthen the party ahead of the 2029 general elections and not about sidelining individuals.

“Sometimes it’s time for a rotation in the team, time to give other people an opportunity, time to bring in fresh blood. And I do everything with this goal in mind. What is the party that we’re trying to build in the future and what is the kind of country we’re trying to build in the future? We are planning strategically and carefully for what we want to achieve in 2029 when we want to be the biggest party in the country. And that’s going to require a big shift in gear from us,” explains the Hill-Lewis.
