Chile, Brazil and Uruguay lead Latin America in artificial intelligence adoption

Chile and Brazil took the top two spots in the 2026 Latin American Artificial Intelligence Index (ILIA), whilst Uruguay came third with a score of 67 out of 100. The country also achieved high scores for the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in business, according to Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.

Uruguay trails Brazil by 1.4 points and Chile by 4.4 points.

The study was prepared by the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean and Chile’s National Centre for Artificial Intelligence.

According to the study, 50 per cent of large Uruguayan companies use AI. By comparison, the average for Latin America and the Caribbean stands at 27.6 per cent.

At the same time, the study revealed a correlation between company size and the likelihood of using AI: the smaller the company, the less likely it is to adopt such technologies.
