Chinese lawmakers familiarise with Moscow City Duma youth policy

They were interested in the introduction of modern technologies for project implementation

A delegation of deputies from the National People’s Congress of China arrived in Moscow through the Federation Council of Russia to exchange experience and strengthen bilateral ties. The PRC representatives visited the Moscow City Duma, where they were able to familiarise themselves with the peculiarities of local youth policy.

Chairman of the Moscow City Duma Alexey Shaposhnikov told his colleagues from China about work with the young population and the introduction of digital technologies. The parties also discussed inter-parliamentary co-operation, including through the BRICS International Municipal Forum.

“Two years ago, the Moscow law on youth policy was adopted. It gave a powerful impetus to the development of our Student Parliamentary Clubs, which unite the indifferent, politically active youth of the capital, and the Youth Parliament of Moscow,” said Alexey Shaposhnikov.

The capital authorities did not limit themselves to one Youth Chamber at the Moscow City Duma, but created them in each municipality of the city. In addition, the government actively used digital technologies to attract young people.

Deputies of the National People’s Congress shared their views on the implementation of youth projects, paying special attention to environmental issues.

“I would like to note that the interaction between Russia and China was not interrupted even during the pandemic. At the same time, young Chinese lawmakers came to Russia for the first time since 2012. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the countries. And the purpose of our visit is to strengthen bilateral co-operation, the direction of which is set by the heads of state,” said Du Huiliang, a deputy of the National People’s Congress.

“I was particularly interested to learn about the use of information technologies in the work of Moscow parliamentarians. In China they also play an important role and are actively implemented in many spheres,” shared Deputy Wang Jie.

Alexey Shaposhnikov noted that the Moscow City Duma is actively developing contacts with partners from Beijing, Guangdong and Heilongjiang provinces. Russian parliamentarians plan to meet with delegations from these regions at the BRICS International Municipal Forum scheduled for August.
