Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan plan to increase their bilateral trade turnover to US$10 billion in the near future, according to the Kazakh Finance Minister Madi Takiyev. This was reported by Kazinform, a partner of TV BRICS.
Trade between the two countries totalled US$4.7 billion in 2025. In the first nine months of 2026, the figure reached US$3.7 billion, representing a 29 per cent increase compared with the same period last year.
To support further growth, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have signed an agreement to open representative offices for their customs services in each other’s territory. The initiative is intended to strengthen coordination between the two countries and facilitate cross-border trade.
According to Takiyev, the offices will provide practical and theoretical assistance to domestic and foreign entrepreneurs. They will also help address customs-related issues and improve the movement of goods across the border.
The deputies have approved in two readings a law ratifying the agreement between the governments of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan on opening the customs service representative offices. The measure is expected to support bilateral economic cooperation and help the countries work towards their US$10 billion trade target.
