The Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Dean Macpherson says there are continued attempts by officials in his department, to sabotage the department’s leasing protocols.
Speaking during the Economics Cluster’s answer and question session in the National Assembly, he said self-serving officials try to manipulate the system for their own benefit.
Macpherson outlined some of the challenges he faces in this portfolio.
“We are the largest landowner in South Africa, yet we lease R6 billion worth of private accommodation every year. There’s not a single member who could disagree that there needs to be significant change. I’m also under no illusions that there is an obvious fightback against our oversight with extreme cases of sabotage and acts of go-slows.”
