TIMELINE | Phala Phala farm case

The Constitutional Court announced on Tuesday that it will deliver its long-awaited judgment in the Phala Phala farm robbery case on Friday, 8 May 2026.

The ruling follows a legal challenge by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and the African Transformation Movement (ATM) after the National Assembly refused to proceed with an impeachment inquiry against President Cyril Ramaphosa in December 2022.

At the time, the African National Congress (ANC) used its parliamentary majority to set aside the findings of an independent panel which found the president had a case to answer and may have violated certain sections of the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act 12 of 2004.

This interactive timeline summarises the key events since a large sum of money was stolen from President Cyril Ramaphosa’s game farm in February 2020, to the important Constitutional Court judgment to be handed down on Friday.
