Vietnam to change its research funding system in 2027

From 2027, Vietnam will move from funding individual research projects to comprehensive programmes with specific objectives and expected outcomes. This was announced by the country’s Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung, according to
Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.

At least 30 per cent of projects are planned to be carried out in partnership with companies to accelerate the integration of scientific developments into production and their launch onto the market.

The reform envisages the development of research in the field of high technology and the strengthening of cooperation between research institutes, universities and the business sector. These measures are intended to increase the practical benefits of scientific developments and help the country achieve its goal of becoming a developed, high-income nation by 2045.

Between 2021 and 2025, Vietnam allocated US$649.6 million to 42 scientific programmes, comprising around 4,800 research projects.
